WATCH: Congressman Maxwell Frost Slams House GOP Leadership for Allowing Members to Go Home As Debt Ceiling Crisis Looms
WASHINGTON D.C — Today, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) took to the House floor to slam Speaker McCarthy and Republican Leadership for choosing to recess for the weekend to allow members to go home even as the United States of America is on the brink of defaulting on its debt and plunging the economy and working people into a recession.
This morning, Rep. Frost joined a group of Freshmen Members in calling on the Speaker to keep the House in session until a bipartisan agreement has been reached on the debt limit.

In his speech, Rep. Frost said:
“After weeks of pointing fingers on debt ceiling negotiations, House Republicans have finally shown their true colors.
“It’s Republican Leadership that controls this chamber. It’s Speaker McCarthy who controls the floor.
“And yet, instead of working overtime to make sure we don’t default on our nation’s debt, send the economy into a tailspin, and stop the benefits of millions of Americans – members of Congress are going home this weekend.
“The interesting thing is, many of these folks, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, are the same people that clowned me on Twitter for not having the best credit after my campaign and beingdenied an apartment here in D.C.
“Imagine the hypocrisy of poor shaming working people for trying to pay off their debts and then turning around and refusing to pay the country's debt to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
“It's distasteful, it's disgraceful, and we have to do better.”
