Congressman Maxwell Frost Announces Nearly $180,000 Federal Grant to City of Orlando

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) announced the City of Orlando is receiving a nearly $180,000 grant from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for service and volunteering, to help local students continue their educations and pay off student loans.

The City of Orlando will receive the grant to use towards their VISTA program which empowers local volunteers to work with disadvantaged youth in Central Florida community centers and partner organizations to earn grants that will be put towards continuing their education or school loans.

“Thrilled to announce that the City of Orlando will receive a nearly $180,000 federal grant from AmeriCorps to help support our city’s volunteer programs while helping students in need continue their education at institutions of higher learning,” said Rep. Frost. “It’s amazing to see our city make use of federal dollars to create a positive cycle of giving, where low-income kids are given the support and resources they need to reach their goals while investing in the communities they came from. This is only the beginning as we continue to put federal dollars to work for the people of Central Florida.”

"The City of Orlando is grateful to receive this continuation federal grant from AmeriCorps to engage AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) in service to our residents," said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. "We appreciate Congressman Frost's support and the support of his predecessors. The efforts of our AmeriCorps VISTAs to address food insecurity, improve early childhood education and reduce homelessness, have made a significant difference in Orlando for more than a decade."
