Congressman Frost Calls on Florida State Senate to Take Action As Federal Judge Finds Governor DeSantis’s Suspension of Andrew Warren Unconstitutional
WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) released a statement today after a federal judge ruled that Governor Ron DeSantis’s move to suspend Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren violated the Florida Constitution and Warren’s First Amendment rights. Despite the ruling, federal courts cannot restore Warren to office, leaving the matter firmly in the hands of the Republican-controlled Florida State Senate.
In a statement, Congressman Frost says:
“A United States Federal Judge has now made it clear that Governor Ron DeSantis violated not only the Florida Constitution, but Andrew Warren’s First Amendment rights when he unlawfully suspended State Attorney Warren last August.
“As self-proclaimed fierce defenders of the Constitution, I am calling on the Republican-controlled Florida Senate to put partisanship aside and do the right thing by following the letter of the law and reviewing State Attorney Warren’s suspension, and immediately reinstating him to his duly elected position.
“No one is above the law, and Governor DeSantis’s suspension of Warren was unconstitutional, plain and simple. DeSantis’s abuse of power must be checked before it goes even further.”
