Amid Backlog, Frost Calls for Extended Hours at Miami Passport Agency to Help Summer Travelers

WASHINGTON DC — Today, amid reports of travelers across Central Florida suffering major delays in passport renewals and applications, Congressman Maxwell Frost (FL-10) sent a letter to the Department of State calling on the agency to expand appointment hours at the Miami Passport Office to Saturdays in order to ensure working Floridians are afforded the opportunity to travel to South Florida to take care of their passport issues.

Currently, the Miami Passport Agency is only open for appointments Monday through Friday, making it difficult for Floridians working full-time jobs to visit the office without having to take time off from work. The Miami office is the only location in the state.

“With summer travel in full gear, I commend the State Department and the Miami Passport Agency for doing all they can to keep up with passport renewals and new applications for travelers leaving from Florida,” said Rep. Maxwell Frost. “But while the agency is doing its best, thousands of working Central Floridians have been unable to secure appointments due to work schedules and the distance needed to travel between South and Central Florida. Opening the passport agency for Saturday appointments provides access to these services more equitably and accommodates travelers with less flexibility.”

Congressman Frost’s office remains committed to helping Central Floridians navigate issues with their passports. Folks in need of assistance are encouraged to reach out to Rep. Frost’s office and learn more here.
