NSM Today: Florida District 10 Representative Maxwell Frost Launches UCF Satellite Office

Students, faculty and alumni can now seek help with a number of federal agencies on campus.

Matters like Federal Student Aid, SNAP Benefits, passports, visas and even potential tours of the nation’s Capitol can be addressed in the Student Union.

U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost, the first member of Generation Z to be elected to Congress, launched his second satellite office on the second floor of the Student Union.

The satellite office will have a constituent service team available on select days for visitors to share questions, seek guidance with federal agencies or voice their concerns over Florida's 10th District.

A constituent services team will return every other Thursday in Conference Room 219.

Services were available from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. after a ribbon cutting ceremony for the satellite office.

When the constituent services team returns to the Student Union, services will be available from 8:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

Frost said he hopes students won't feel intimidated by a lawmaker's presence on campus.

“The whole point of this mobile office is to make sure that we’re accessible to people here,” Frost said.

Laurel Richmond, sophomore political science major, said the Generation Z representative’s presence on campus has brought a number of services to her attention.

“I don’t even know all of the benefits I could be receiving,” Richmond said.

Richmond acts as an external legislative assistant for UCF’s student government. Richmond and a handful of fellow student government members attended the launch and were able to take advantage of one aspect of the constituent services team.

“We were able to make sure no one is using our SSN,” Richmond said.

Frost said this new addition came as a full circle moment for him as a UCF alumnus. He recalled organizing on the UCF campus.

“Just a few years ago, I was here at UCF campus registering people to vote, getting people to vote for candidates I believed in, and now we’re here, I’m here as a member of Congress,” Frost said.

Richmond said Frost’s age, especially when compared with his colleagues, helps to create a level of understanding between students and the congressman.

“He’s Gen Z, so he gets it,” Richmond said. “He seems to be focused on helping us with these issues, like student debt.”

Assistance with federal services will be available in the Student Union on March 14, March 28, April 11 and April 25.
