Congressman Maxwell Frost Statement Ahead of Vote on Catastrophic Republican Bill on Debt-Limit

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) released a statement ahead of the House vote on the catastrophic Republican debt-limit bill that will hold our nation and economy ransom as House GOP Leadership desperately attempts to cut vital American programs and services under threat of defaulting on our national debt.

In a statement, Rep. Frost says:

“Speaker McCarthy and his GOP lapdogs in the House are about to pass a dangerous bill that, if enacted, will implement horrific cuts to the services and resources working Floridians depend on.

“Under this bill, nearly 30,000 Floridians in Central Florida will see housing costs rise, about 8,000 jobs will be lost, over 65,000 families will find their Social Security payments in jeopardy, and health benefits will be at risk for 245,000 people. And that’s only the beginning.

“Congressional Republicans are using the life and well-being of Americans as a bargaining chip, and they are willing to default on our debt, shut down our economy, and hurt working people if they don’twin.

“Let’s be clear: they want to cut the benefits of millions of Americans to pay for the massive tax cuts they gave the richest Americans during the Trump Administration.

“I will vote NO on this bill. And demand Republicans get serious about a clean debt ceiling raise that doesn’t hold our people and economy hostage.”
