Congressman Maxwell Frost Slams Pres. Donald Trump As New Admin. Closes White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention
Frost Worked with President Biden to Make the Office Of Gun Violence Prevention a Reality in 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) slammed Donald Trump and his Administration for dismantling and closing the historic White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) less than 24 hours after taking office.
Frost, who first introduced legislation in March of 2023 to create such an office, was instrumental in getting the Biden-Harris Administration to establish the first-ever Office of Gun Violence Prevention in the White House.
Since its creation, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention has helped hundreds of Americans and countless communities by offering the first-ever federal response to mass shootings and gun violence, responding to crises when they happen, and connecting local governments and municipalities with resources to help victims and survivors. OGVP also played a key role in implementing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and getting federal grant money to communities in need – including the City of Orlando who received a $1.5 million grant for their Community Violence Intervention program in October of 2023.
In a statement, Rep. Frost says:
“We’re one day into the new Trump Administration and we’re already seeing a massive roll back of the progress President Biden had made on fighting for communities free of gun violence.
“Donald Trump doesn’t seem to give a damn about kids who get shot dead in their own classrooms, or innocent people who are gunned down by shooters in churches, movie theaters, grocery stores, or public places. Because if he did, he’d realize that the Office of Gun Violence Prevention was not about politics, it was about saving lives.
“Bullets don’t discriminate. Leaders on both sides of the aisle need to come to the table to pass common sense gun reform that protects our communities. I will not stop fighting until I see the Office of Gun Violence Prevention once again become a reality.”
