Congressional Florida Democrats Joint Statement on Florida’s Six-Week Abortion Ban

Washington, DC – Today, Congressional Florida Democrats,Maxwell Frost (FL-10), Representatives Frederica Wilson (FL-24), Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (FL-25), Lois Frankel (FL-22), Kathy Castor (FL-14), Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), Darren Soto (FL-09), and Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), released the following joint statement on Florida’s Six-Week Abortion Ban, which takes effect May 1:

“Today and every day, the truth remains clear: People, not politicians, should be in control of their own reproductive health decisions.

“Florida’s draconian six-week abortion ban is outrageous—a blow to Floridians' reproductive freedom. Rather than progressing as a society, Florida's suffocating law sets us back as a state.

“The decision to seek an abortion is a personal decision that should remain private, not be put in the hands of politicians.

“This extreme ban not only hurts vulnerable Floridians, it threatens doctors and nurses, and drives away residents from our great state. Floridians face a crisis under this tyranny, but they have an opportunity to make their voices heard come November.

“Our state must choose: Stand for the freedom of individuals to control their own bodies, or shamelessly trample on people's most personal medical decisions.

“Our fight for reproductive justice is unwavering. Until abortion access is guaranteed nationwide, our battle persists, not just in Florida, but across the nation.”
